Amadioha

Amadioha is the Arusi or Agbara of thunder and lightning of the Igbo people of southeastern Nigeria. He is amongst the most popular of Igbo deities and in some parts of Igboland, he is goes by various names across Igboland such as Amadiora, Kamalu (Kalu Akanu), Ofufe, or Kamanu. 

Amadioha is considered one of the most powerful and feared deities in Igbo culture. He is believed to control the forces of thunder and lightning, using them to punish wrongdoers.

Amadioha is associated with justice, morality, and truth, ensuring that individuals are held accountable for their actions. In many occasion, oaths and vows are sworn in Amadioha’s name, invoking his power to enforce truth and accountability.

Amadioha is often symbolized by the thunderbolt, axe, or machete, representing his powerful and decisive nature. Devotees offer sacrifices, prayers, and rituals to appease Amadioha, seeking protection, guidance, and justice.

Amadioha’s principal shrine is located in Ogboro Ama Ukwu or Ihiokpu as it is called in Ozuzu in Etche Local Government Area of present-day Rivers state.

Amadioha’s significance extends beyond mythology, influencing Igbo culture, ethics, and daily life.
