Akaeze is an autonomous community and the main town of Ivo local government area in Ebonyi State, in the Akaeze Ezeokeoyiri kingdom. It is a town with villages and kindreds inside it, not a clan standing on its own.
Akaeze is a town, not a clan: an autonomous community in Ivo with its own territory, its own villages such as Umuobor, and its own electoral wards, governed as the Akaeze Ezeokeoyiri kingdom.
It lies in the south of Ebonyi, close to the Abia boundary, and its people farm and trade — yam, cassava and rice mostly, with the market at the centre of the town's life.
Its origins are mixed, and it is remembered as drawing from more than one side: partly from Edda, partly from the Elugu of the north and partly from the Isu and Item country of the south. It is one of the few places in this part of Ebonyi that Forde & Jones do not treat as a fragment of one original clan.
