Its towns are repeatedly named as places of origin by neighbours: Akpofu, one of the communities of Amagunze (No. 34), split from Akpugo, and Ihuokpara of the same group came from Akpugo as well as from Onicha; Ugbawka (No. 36) is said to be derived from various village groups of this clan and of Akegbe-Ozalla, particularly from Akpugo; and Ozalla and Obe of Akegbe-Ozalla (No. 33) claim relationship with the clan.
Surplus palm oil and kernels were shipped out by rail from Nomeh and from Agbani (Akpugo). It is counted among the settlements of the southern Nkanu plains, which were taken up by movement westward out of the eastern uplands. Forde & Jones record no origin tradition for the clan itself.
