Each community has its own derivation: Amagunze itself is related to the Akunano section of Akegbe-Ozalla (No. 33); Akpofu, which split from Akpugo, the clan entered above as No. 32; Onicha Agu, whose people came from Onicha among the North-Eastern Igbo; and Ihuokpara, from Akpugo as well as from that same Onicha.
It is counted among the settlements of the southern Nkanu plains, where offshoots that left the uplands for the plains and foothills form village groups no longer identifying with the hill people and claiming descent from a mixture of upland centres as well as from groups of the North-Eastern Igbo and of the Cross River area.
