The entry is called a small clan, or else a large village group, made up of seven local communities together with Umualo, a single local community of its own, which accounts for the eighth.
The group lies on the northern Nkanu plains, an isolated and thinly peopled area settled mainly out of the eastern uplands. The Ehamufu area, with Ikem, Ofemili and Nike, is among the few where good land and a thin population made yam growing for sale practicable.
Meek records that the Um-Ezudu kindred at Eha-Amufu regard leopards as their brothers and are therefore also known as Um-Ago, and that a member who killed one by accident had to sacrifice a goat to the spirit Ekweesu; the kindred is an exogamous unit.
