It divides into the regional groups Ogugu, Mba (Umuaturu) and Egwi, and its people are among the better yam farmers of the north.

The clan is divided into three regional groups: Ogugu, Mba (Umuaturu) and Egwi. Forde & Jones record no separate origin tradition for Etche.

The Etche and Oratta groups, which lie to the north of the Ikwerri, are better yam farmers than the Ikwerri though less wealthy than them. Yam production is said to be comparatively small in the area because of the heavy rainfall.
