A group of towns in Anambra State, in the two local government areas named after it — Idemili North and Idemili South — along the river Idemili.

Idemili is a group of seventeen towns in Anambra State, in the two local government areas that carry its name: Idemili North and Idemili South. The river Idemili runs through both.

The towns are not one settlement and were never one. They are neighbours along the river, which is what gives the group its name and its identity, and each town keeps its own traditional ruler and its own affairs.

The area is a centre of trade and farming. Idemili North has the Uke market and a building materials market, and grows yam, cassava, cocoyam and vegetables; its people also fish, work as blacksmiths and make handicrafts. Idemili South is farming country with the Afor Nnobi and Ezeihulu markets.

Ogidi is the home of Chinua Achebe and of Emeka Anyaoku, and Nkpor, Obosi and Umuoji are among the largest towns of the group.
