A town of the Isu subgroup in Afikpo local government area of Ebonyi State. The sources place the Isu settlements of Ebonyi in Onicha local government area; whether this entry is one of those is not yet established.
Like Agba, Onicha and Uburu, it is given no origin and no relationship. The name appears elsewhere for groups unconnected with this one: among the Southern Igbo it belongs to Isu-Ama and Isu-Item, and a small Isu group is listed with Abam and Ohaffia.
Its settlement pattern, like that of the other communities of the neighbouring groups, is said to resemble that of village groups in the Eastern Plains. The religion of the section is recorded for the North-Eastern Igbo as a whole: Chuku, the supreme being, is known, while Obassi is known both as a sky deity and as lord of the underworld; an elaborate cult of the dead centres on the graves of fathers and of earlier ancestors, kept without ọfọ staffs; and Ala, the earth deity, is served at shrines belonging to every lineage.
Where it is: Imo State, Isu local government area. Wikipedia: Isu local government area, Imo State — the settlement the subgroup is named for.
