Its towns are Okpuno, Mbakwu, Isu, Urum and Amanuke.
Amanuke, one of the five, is among the communities said to have shared in a single early clan headed by Nri, alongside Umueri and the Nsugbe, Nadi and Umuanya group. Otherwise Forde & Jones record no origin tradition, and the group lies in the Anambra valley.
Afigbo notes that federations with no single founding ancestor often took a name counting their member towns, and gives Mbanese as the five towns.
