Its towns are Ugbene, Ugbenu and Awba.
In the Northern Igbo, yam growing for export is practicable in only a few places, where good land and thin population coincide, and Ofemili is one of them, with Ikem, Ehamufu and Nike. The group lies in the Anambra valley.
Afigbo cites the name as an instance of the purely geographical titles that federations of formerly separate villages adopted, giving its full form as Ndi Ofemili, those who live on the far side of the river.
