The group lies in the northern section of the eastern uplands, the old settlement area centred on or near Nsukka.
In that region titles were numerous and highly graded. Disputes and matters of custom within a sub-lineage go to its senior elder (Onyishi); a village is run by the heads of its component sub-lineages under its senior lineage's head, and their decisions reach the village through title-holders (Asogwa), who use minor titled officers (Ndishi Izvu) to carry them out. If villages fall out, or in war or grave sacrilege, senior elders from several villages meet with sub-lineage heads, Asogwa and Iwu. Forde & Jones record no origin tradition for this group.
