Unwana, also written Unwara, is a town of the Afikpo clan in Ebonyi State: the largest of the settlements after Ehugbo, on a hill above the Cross River, with Edda to its west and Cross River State to its east.
Unwana is part of the Afikpo country and shares the Ehugbo culture of the group. It is bordered by Afikpo to the north, Edda to the west and Cross River State to the east, and the Akanu Ibiam Federal Polytechnic is there.
Its best-known son is Akanu Ibiam, Ezeogo and first governor of Eastern Nigeria, whose name the polytechnic carries.
