The Ubulu people are a group of Igbo-speaking communities primarily found in Igbo cultural area. They are mainly associated with two prominent towns: Ubulu-Ukwu and Ubulu-Uno, both of which share a deep historical and cultural heritage.
The Ubulu people have a rich cultural heritage, especially concerning leadership structures, traditional titles, and religious practices. One significant aspect of their culture is the Ozo title system, a highly revered institution among the Igbo.
Ubulu Ukwu, in particular, is known for its royal lineage, with the Obi of Ubulu Ukwu serving as a traditional ruler and a custodian of the people’s customs.
Like other Igbo communities, the Ubulu people practice traditional religions, although majority embraced Christianity. Festivals, such as the Ifejioku Festival, the new yam harvest (Iwa-jị/Iri-jị/Ike-jị), and other cultural practices reflect their deep Igbo heritage.
