Histories about Mbanese

The archive links no published history to Mbanese yet. Its neighbours’ histories are not shown here, because a link to another community is not a history of this one.

Histories that mention Mbanese

No published record in this archive names Mbanese in its own words.

Read as: Mbanese. Counted where the name is written with a capital, because a lower-case occurrence of a name that is also an ordinary word is the word.

Its towns are Okpuno, Mbakwu, Isu, Urum and Amanuke.

Amanuke, one of the five, is among the communities said to have shared in a single early clan headed by Nri, alongside Umueri and the Nsugbe, Nadi and Umuanya group. Otherwise Forde & Jones record no origin tradition, and the group lies in the Anambra valley.

Afigbo notes that federations with no single founding ancestor often took a name counting their member towns, and gives Mbanese as the five towns.
