Nkita Agwu, the male dog of Agwụ Nsi, the Igbo deity of healing and divination. Acquired in 1916 from the Echie community in present-day Rivers State by the Pitt Rivers Museum. Nkita Agwu is a spiritual guardian dog linked to Agwụ, protecting dibia (healers) from evil. Igbo healers value dogs for their heightened spiritual senses, particularly their eyes, which detect malevolent forces, and dogs are often sacrificed during healer initiation rites.
