Cloud 7: A Deep Dive Into Funk Music From The East

Cloud 7 is a music group from Imo state, eastern Nigeria that was led by Cliford David-Nwaire, includes talented musicians such as Ben Jagga, Johnb “ull Iwuamadi, Pat Akpor, Sam Bass, Sunny Dewol, Tom Brown. Their sound merged a blend of highlife and irresistible funk . With their breakout hit  “ Beautiful Woman”. They went on to release 5 albums between the year 1978-1987. in those years , they ruled the disco dancehalls of major cities in Nigeria.

CLIFF DAVID:

Born in Ihite-uboma , Imo state at the end of the world war. Clifford David Nwarie was a talented singer , guitarist and lead act of the crew . together with his group of amazing singers, Cliff gave the world a diverse taste of undiluted funk music with his serenading voice in beautiful woman that catapulted the group to fame. Cliff later dropped secular music after he gave his life to Christ, dropped a gospel album titled ” thank you Jesus”. Later in life, he settled in Aba (modern day Abia state) and dedicated the rest of his life to evangelism , calling souls to run to the lord. On May 28 2009, the lord called Cliff  to come and reside with him in his bosom.
