Histories that mention Bende

These are published records whose own words name Bende. A mention is not a history of Bende, which is why they are listed here rather than with the histories about it.

Read as: Bende. Counted where the name is written with a capital, because a lower-case occurrence of a name that is also an ordinary word is the word.

The source equates its village group of Bende with the Ibibio Mbente.

Its two communities are the village group of Bende, and Ukpom, also noted as an Ibibio name.

With Ibere and Obero, Bende is classed among the original Enyong Ibibio communities taken over by Igbo incomers from the west; some local groups of this kind remember no migration tradition, keeping instead that of the Ibibio villages with which they merged.
